What a recorded price means
A record is an asking-price observation associated with a source, a model, a currency and a date. It is not proof that a car sold at that price, that an advert is still available, or that a particular vehicle is worth that amount.
The same advert can be observed more than once. Our counts describe observations. Where shown, source-listing identifiers combine the source with its listing ID or URL; these are not a count of unique physical cars across websites.
How the numbers are calculated
The all-time summary uses eligible observations for the model and currency: the arithmetic mean, lowest price, highest price and number of observations. The chart groups those observations by recorded date and currency and shows a daily arithmetic mean, rounded to a whole currency unit.
These are descriptive summaries of the available records. They are not adjusted for mileage, condition, equipment, inflation or changes in the mix of cars. A change in the average can occur when different cars enter the sample.
Currencies, dates and coverage
Currencies are never combined or converted. Currency does not identify a country: EUR records can come from different markets. Check each source before treating a price as a comparable local offer.
The history uses all eligible recorded dates. The source-listing section shows up to the latest 500 eligible records added to our database in the last year, in pages of 50. Its window can therefore differ from the chart. The recorded date and the date a record was added are different fields.
A gap in the chart means no observation for that date and currency. A single observation cannot establish a trend. Older records remain useful as dated history; they do not become current offers because the page is still available.
Quality checks and known limits
Nonpositive prices, known demonstration records and models explicitly quarantined during review are excluded from public calculations. Descriptive vehicle copy is published only after editorial approval with recorded sources. This does not make every legacy vehicle identity verified.
Coverage is incomplete and is not a representative census of a national market. Source pages, collection timing, duplicate adverts and imperfect vehicle matching can affect a series. We do not currently publish a personalized valuation, a confirmed-sale index or model-specific depreciation forecasts.
Corrections and research
If an identity, date or price looks wrong, send the page URL and the specific issue through our corrections instructions. Provide a primary source where possible. We review the evidence before changing published claims or vehicle assignments.
Our free calculators use your entered values. Their examples and projections are separate from the observed-price database.
